Dante’s Friend Twig

Dante’s Friend Twig

I bet you have lots of different friends, right? Some are short, some are tall. Some are big, some are small. But, no matter how different they are, you like them.

Do you think animals have friends?  Check out a few of these BFFs.

This isn’t Dante, but he sure does look like him!

That looks a lot like a gator, doesn’t it? Kitty doesn’t seem worried, though.

Dante, the ferret, loves making new friends. Soon, you’ll be able to read about an adventure Dante and Rufus have, in the woods and corn fields surrounding their new home. They decide to explore a trail that leads into the woods. The first critter they meet, is Twigg. He looks like this:

The Thirteen-Lined Ground Squirrel:

Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel

Cute, huh? I bet you’ve seen one scurrying across the road, especially if you happen to live near a park. These little critters are sometimes called, striped gophers, but they belong to the squirrel family, along with: chipmunks, ground squirrels, tree squirrels, prairie dogs, and woodchucks.

They’re usually about 11 inches long, including a 5- to 6-inch tail, and adults weigh about 4-5 ounces in the spring, but will double their weight by the fall in preparation for winter hibernation.
